A strategic land planner and design practitioner for over 15 years, Dan Ford brings seasoned experience in land conservation, master planning and site design, urban design and high-end resort development to the team at Beau Welling Design as Vice President of Planning. Dan received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with honors from The Pennsylvania State University and then furthered his studies at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, receiving a Masters of Landscape Architecture in Urban Design.

Beginning his career with the leading landscape architecture firm Design Workshop in Denver, CO, Dan quickly rose through the ranks of leadership, helping grow a sustainable and successful practice where his work was honored by the American Society of Landscape Architects. Dan later joined DPS Development in 2005 as Senior Planner and Development Manager. During his time with DPS, Dan was responsible for the visioning, planning and design, and execution for each project, while also actively assisted in marketing and communicating the firm’s vision and commitment to preserving the environmental integrity and distinctive character of each residential sporting communities.

In 2011 Dan joined Clemson University as a Visiting Assistant Professor, teaching in the School of Planning, Development, Preservation and Landscape Architecture. While at Clemson, Dan taught undergraduate and graduate level studio and lecture courses, focusing on research and communication, key issues in design and development, and Urban design case studies. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dan co-taught in and served on many multidisciplinary classes and juries in real estate, architecture, planning and landscape architecture. Bringing ‘real-world’ experience into the classroom, Dan utilized his wide consulting network to bring both experts and real projects to campus for students to deepen their expertise.

Dan joined BWD in 2014 to lead and grow all community planning and urban design efforts. Dan’s role at BWD involves day-to-day business development, design and client correspondence and relationship management. With his wide breadth of experience, Dan offers pin-point project management, organizational leadership, sound decision making, and excellent communication skills – a valuable asset to all BWD projects, both large and small. A member of Urban Land Institute, Dan enjoys the dialog amongst other leaders and the chance to lead and mentor young professionals. Dan resides in Asheville, NC with his wife and three sons.
